Lincoln County Democratic Central Committee Executive Board Meeting Minutes July 7, 2008 at the home of Florence Shepard Present: Dan Beck, Larry Armstrong, Alice McCain (recording), Pat McGovern, Florence, Billie Jo Smith. Dan called the meeting to order at 7:10. County Fair: Discussion of activities and items to offer the public. Setup of booth is Thurs., July 17 at 3 p.m. Discussed Pin the Tail on the Donkey adaptation ideas. Balloons, bumper stickers, pins and signs have been ordered by Alice. Extra Obama items after fair can be left with Jackie at Halcyon shop in Nye Beach. Other needed items/who will get them: cork board, easel, compressor/air pump, file box, LCDCC banner, flag and bunting--Dan; push pins, rubber bands, string (and "Dollar-a-Dot" items to replace Pin the Tail on the Donkey activity)--Alice. Candidate signs & info: Ben Westlund--Larry. Kate Brown, Avakian, Schrader, Merkley--Dan. Joanne Verger, Jean Cowan--Billie Jo and Alice. Bill Hall--Leigh Evans. Ballot measures, general Democratic info from May 31 unity canvass--Billie Jo. Coordinated Campaign: Larry has a cell phone which takes messages and is our "office" for a coordinated campaign. Phone # is 541-992-2333. He will contact candidates with the phone # and ask them to leave messages with any campaign info and requests. Goal: make communication go in all directions. We'll need to do a press release, also. Cost is $50/5 months; Larry will make it an in-kind donation. He is going to DPO this weekend in Tualatin and plans to contact others on committee from LCDCC to see if they plan to attend. Is there an Oregon Obama Campaign? (Name of Rob Hill came up; more info from Google?) Programs: Billie Jo hasn't yet received info about marine reserves promised at our June meeting. DPO Vice Chair Frank Dixon is coming to July 23 picnic/meeting, and candidates are welcome to come for a social evening. August and September meetings will focus on ballot measures; member volunteers will be asked to divide up the measures approved for the ballot and report back to the group. October's topic is "Desperate Candidates" (ballots already out by that meeting). Fundraising ideas: Lori Hollingsworth has offered her home for a garage sale; details such as date need to be worked out. Dan will follow up. Heiner Wagener has offered use of his cart/trailer for a fundraiser. We need more info about this. Bylaws: Patrick will ask at July meeting for volunteers who want to see changes to Bylaws. Bylaws don't seem to be on LCDCC website; perhaps they can be shared with people? Committee would meet before December reorganization meeting. Phone Tree: Florence suggests adding names from Neighbor-to-Neighbor, elected officials, new PCP's. Dan will re-send names and phone #'s to people for phone tree calling before monthly meetings. Donations to candidates: After discussion it was decided to recommend to Central Committee the following donations: Verger $250; Cowan $250; Schrader $500; Hall $500; Merkley $1000; Arnie Roblan (contested race in 9th Dist. OR House) $100. Vote will be taken at July meeting. Sympathy: Mary's mom died recently. Dan will send flowers and Alice will send a card to her.
